Crowned with love and mercy

Psalm 103:4


Many times I open my Bible and read about God's love. A love that goes beyond our understanding, that is unconditional, patient and slow to anger, kind and compassionate, forgiving, steadfast, unchanging, faithful, sacrificial and loyal.

And above all a love that is so big, that it is almost impossible to grasp with our human understanding. A love that was expressed on the cross, where Jesus died and in the tomb, where He rose again.


The verses that have triggered me a lot over the last year are from Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV): "And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's Holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know His love that surpasses knowledge; that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."


So many times I have became very still when reading "to know His love that surpasses knowledge". And I asked God: "What does that really mean? To know Your love that surpasses knowledge?"

I say often to myself that God loves me and I declare it with my mouth, but does my heart really know this? What if the challenges of life are coming my way; What is the first thing I grab on to? Fear, anger, frustration? Or do I know in my heart that God loves me so much, that His love will never fail and that He already overcame everything? 


More and more I am convinced that there is something deeper behind these verses than we realise. A love that goes beyond our knowledge and us just proclaiming it with our mouth. A love that is so deeply routed in His love, that we don't have to tell ourselves anymore, but we KNOW it from our hearts.

It is a knowing so deep, that loving God with all our hearts (Matthew 22:37 NIV), all our souls and all our minds becomes easy and unshakable.


I heard someone once say that the way from our mind to our heart is relatively short (from physical perspective), but it can be the longest route on our spiritual journey.
